Joseph Stevens

MotherSusan Stephens
Joseph Stevens was the son of Susan Stephens.
Joseph Stevens married Mary (?).
Joseph Stevens was buried on 6 February 1722 at Seaford, Sussex, England.1
His estate was probated on 9 June 1722 at Archdeaconry of Lewes Probate Register, B16, Folio 119, 9 Jun 1722.
The original information came from Mrs K. Haynes, "Bedgebury", 5 Alfriston Rd, Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 3QD (Tel. (0323) 890057) who is not related to these Stephens.
The record of administration of Joseph Stevens estate at Lewes is in Latin and very brief (45 lines). It is yet to be translated but does not appear to contain a list of family members. Children of the family were:
Son John Stevens was a thatcher. Son Joseph Stevens was a town seargent.
Michaela (Micky) Frances Stevens of 46 McDougall Grove, Haywards, Lower Hutt, New Zealand is a very distant relative. She is a descendant of John STEPHENS who married Susanna HALLIBONE, daughter of Richard and Jane HALLIBONE, at Seaford on 24.6.1711. Micky sent a copy of a large family tree that had been prepared by her great uncle Alex Stevens of Brighton, Sussex, England about 1916. It confirmed the information sent by Mrs K. Haynes and added the following:
•     Susan Stephens (bur. 21.10.1657 at Seaford) was the mother of Joseph Stephens (bur 6.2.1722 at Seaford) who married Mary
•     A John Stephens, brother to this Joseph (did the fact he was a brother come from the record of administration of Joseph stephens estate?).
•     That John Stephens who married Susanna HALLIBONE was the son of this John Stephens, not the son of Joseph and Mary Stephens as shown above.
Note that the baptism for Mary Stephens, daughter of Joseph and Mary, has not been found by anyone yet, although the information from both Micky and Mrs Haynes have her as part of the family, including her marriage to Abraham Taylor.
